jBrew is coffee roasted a few hundred grams at a time, outdoors, for family and friends. Every batch is numbered and logged second by second, and every bag carries a round sticker that opens the story of its own roast.

Bean temperature from charge to drop, newest darkest. No. 1: Roasted with Artisan, before jBrew had its own app, so its log isn't drawn here.
The setup
- The roasterA Kaleido M2 LITE: an electric drum roaster that takes up to 500 g of green coffee, with one probe in the beans and one in the air of the drum.
- The controlsjBrew's own roasting app, running on a Mac over USB or Bluetooth. It reads the roaster every second, follows a plan for each coffee and chimes each step, and keeps an eye out for trouble. A phone works as the remote at the roaster.
- The coolingThe roaster's own tray, stirring the beans while a fan pulls air through them, so they stop roasting the moment they drop.
- The scaleEvery batch is weighed going in green and coming out roasted. The difference is water cooked off, and it says how dark the roast went.
- The bagsLabels designed and printed at home. Each bag's sticker leads to a private page about that roast; only people with the bag have the address.
Got a bag? Scan the round sticker on it to see its roast.
